It all depends on personal preference; personally I like to "tail" my scorpions. which is just basicly grasping them by the last tail segment at the base of the telson.

this however is not the safest method, I would recomend "cupping" the scorpion for your first time, just basically coaxing it into a cup and then dumping it onto your hand.

just a header, don't handle your scorpions too much, It's ok every now and then, but don't overdo it.

i have seen that method but it looks like it hurts the scorp :/ i think ill try cupping if they ever come out of their burrow in the last month or so i have only seen each of them once and that was when they were getting a drink in the middle of the night

uh, it does not hurt the scorp at all. i pick up most of my scorps by the tail, as it is just easier to pluck them out of their cage then to try and mess with a cup. just the easiest method IMO/E.

The replies just go to show it depends on personal preference. It seems there is no definite wrong or right way so choose what ever method you feel comfortable with. That being the cupping method. Good luck on handling and hope you don't get pinched. (Pinching hurts 2x more than the sting)

usually if you tail them and leave their legs on the ground, they won't do that. or you could use a pencil in the other hand or something to keep him from coming up and pinching you. they're strong though, that's for sure...

I tried to handle 2 of my emps. Male and Female. They almost killed me. I am never touching my scorps again.

there are some things in life which are better left un-f***ed with..scorpions are one of them. ive picked them up once or twice but only to move them not to handle them, i like to observe more than interact. however i think people who handle them have balls and i dont think its wrong or anything. im just not gonna mess with em haha

Same, Ive handled some nasty critters in my day and Im pretty sure its because I live in my basement where its usually 70 degrees or cooler at times. On some days when I feel like being daring I handle my Andros and even LQ's. I try not to handle things like that too often though. Emps are pretty simple unless you have a monster one like some peoples.

There are a few people on the boards that have handled and I think Tabor has been stung by one  Id post a pic handling my largest female but for the newer people to the hobby thats a horrible example to set. Its crazy in a sense but it was under 70*(about 66-68* in my room) and she seemed pretty docile at the time. I wouldnt attempt to pick her up by the tail but from cup to hand, yeah maybe from time to time for a little rush:p
