Elder bugs sighting

I think these are large milkweed bugs. That looks like milkweed they are feeding on. Judging by the time of year, these are probably fueling up to migrate!


If you like them, talk to farmers :)
Also, they don't fill me with the seething rage I feel when I see one of those smelly lumps of refuse called elderbugs...

Pretty! The colour is kinda similar to a monarch butterfly. I wonder if that's Müllerian mimicry to signal that they are distasteful due to them both having milkweed toxins?

look like Serinethinae. I think in english the common name is soapberry bugs. They are a common "pest" species, they suck juices from stems leaves, seeds etc.

They are pretty though! We have a species than infests trees here that when you shake the branch 10s of thousands drop and fly around. a pretty surreal game to play :lol: Lot of research on them, can check you country's AG ministries (eg. USDA) to learn quite a lot about them. They evolve quite fast, at least in terms if host plant adaptation. kinda cool. depending who you ask lol.
