Hey guys!

I got home from the airport late Sunday night, and just could not wait to see what my little creepy crawlies have been up too!

I knew I had an eggsac from my HUGE N. chromatus to pull, but I had no idea that my communal Black and Yellow Argiope tank was doing sooo well...two eggsacs!

So, I now have 3 eggsacs to watch!..BTW, the N. chromatus sac is HUGE, so expect to see those little ones for sale soon...lol

Here are a few pics to enjoy......

Congrats! Nice to see a big N. chromatus sac, I'd be interested in a bunch of those!

Watch out for those Argiope, the slings are TINY but really numerous (that's a huge sac!) and it looks like they could get out of that screen top....

LOL....Thanks Eric! Already all over that!!! I changed the lid to plexi, to eliminate the possibility of escape. Any idea the length of time before hatching on the Argiope???

At constant room temps I'd bet you are looking at hatching in 3-4 weeks...ish. Hard to say exactly though 21-28 days after laying is usually a good guess. The slings will stay together in this totally cool looking communal web for an instar or two, I bet you could just leave them in there together and end up with a decent number of adults if they are well fed; since they won't wander too much after making their own orbs. That would be a pretty cool looking tank! Make sure to PM when the chromatus are ready!, I only have one now and that is just not enough.

Cheers,
Eric

We have those argiopes all over the place here. One outside my workplace just dropped a sac and I'm probably going to pull it from her in a couple weeks because everyone at work can't stand the thought of 'millions of tiny spiders' running around everywhere.

We have a lot of N. clavipes as well.

Oh, and widows galore. Mainly brown widows, but there are a few blacks around too.

HAHA!!! It keeps getting better!

One more argiope sac was just dropped, bringing the total to 3...lol

I'm going to pull them shortly. I gave it some thought, and figured I'd gently refridgerate them "overwinter". Then in the spring, I can release them, once they've grown up a bit.....Better chance of survial???...Maybe.

That sounds like a good plan. I had a trio of black and yellow argiopes living in my yard one year (female, two males). Had fun throwing crickets into the webs every few days. Female laid a LARGE sac on the deck in a protected spot that fall and I got really lucky the following spring to watch it hatch and the babies ballooon off on their little webbies.
