On Friday I gave a presentation on tarantulas to children for the first time. Kids are naturally curious, so it was a real pleasure.
It was my friend's class of fourth graders, and they had been reading Charlotte's Web. I applaud my friend for leading the kids in researching spiders, bridging from a work of fiction into science. You see, she really doesn't like spiders; I'm amazed she asked me to bring them in.
I put up pics in my photo thread, have a look- Aunt Ant's presentation
I have a feeling there may be future keepers in the making! :D

Have any of you used your collections to educate? It's so awesome, I can't wait for another opportunity

Great pictures! It's Really great that you took the time to do this. I find that explaning all about T's to kids is really rewarding and memorable for both me and them. Good job.

Nice :)
We use snakes, spiders, scorpions.millipedes and frogs when we visit schools.......the kids absolutely love them all.
They also get to handle the millipedes and some of the snakes.

We use the Ts, scorps, birds & small animals to do presentations. We go to schools, retirement homes, homeschool groups. We also have tours here. I have 4 of the native 6 scorpions & they are a big hit! Please let me know if you have any questions for me, I would be happy to help with anything that comes up. PM me & I will give you my personal email address. Kim

I use my T's with my students (don't tell anybody, but I'm not even a science teacher!), and it's been a very rewarding experience for all involved.

I used my tarantulas to help somebody who lives a couple hundred miles away get over their arachnophobia through just telling them about their behavior and through pointing her to threads on this site. It was my good deed of the decade so I'm set for a while.

Way to go. I have done about 30 or so of these presentations for ages preschool to 8th grade. I use T's and sometimes hissers. It is always a very rewarding experience.
