So I just was looking at youtube videos of the fried t's that are sold in Cambodia, and looked on wikipedia to check the species and it said there was one account of someone saying it's an H. albo. I don't know if it's because of environmental factors, but these spiders eaten in the videos look to be ~6 inches, whereas mine is only ~3.5 inches. Also, i've never seen an H. albo more than about four in. The live ones in the videos almost look like H. lividums. Does anyone know more about this?

I've thought they were either H. longipes or the Haplo that keeps showing up in LPS's over the last year or so.(H. sp. "Vietnam")

I know they're supposed to taste really good too. Like crab meat!!:}

Crunchy, mostly crunchy is how I would describe them. And yes, crab/shrimp-like :)
Haplos should get 3.5" plus, how long have you had them?

Here's one i was given, they're being sold in a speciality food store here in london

It's a lot smaller than 6 inches across, maybe a generous 5 at most

Bryn,

I gotta know--did you try it?????

I love how the back of the package says, "Enjoy the crispy legs first, then wash the abdomen down with a cold beer. WARNING: Remove fangs!"

Gack!!! :barf:

I ate a lollipop with a cricket in it once. It tasted like really dry maybe slightly burnt popcorn. No salt or butter of course.

Wow man I bet it does. It might taste good and I've tried lots of foods, but I don't think I could bring myself to do it.

Oh wow, that is just nasty looking to eat. I have one of those suckers with the scorpion in it. I'm not even thinking of eating that thing. Yucch.

Yuck :barf: and it makes me kind of sad at the same time. Kind of like when my oldest son showed me a video of a T and a Scorpion fighting :(

I like how they made it healthy by oven baking it and not frying it..... And the warning is a good one. Nothing sucks more then eating a t and a fang stabs your throat on its way down..... That would hurt.

hahahahahaha ingredients: Tarantula, Salt. That is fantastic. Wish I could see stuff like this on some of the other reptile forums. I wonder how many calories a tarantula would have. high protien.

You know what else tastes like crab and shrimp? Crab and shrimp. No fangs to remove, and you don't have to close your eyes when eating it to avoid gagging.

I'd try it, if only I wasn't allergic to crab/shrimp/lobster. I bet these would have a similar effect.
