WOW, I just witnessed some pretty strange behavior while watching my Columbian rainbow boa eat just a min. ago. I fed her the usual sized mouse, which she usually gets two of. When she began consuming her prey it got about 2/3 of the way down and she began spinning like she was constricting, but the food was in her mouth. While watching this i noticed that the glottis and her tongue were hanging out of her mouth very far. She then regurgitated the mouse out to about just past the ears and then fully consumed the mouse with ease. Have any of you witnessed this behavior, if so could you explain to me what was happening? I think that she maybe swallowed it the wrong way (although nothing about the way she was swallowing it seemed unusual) or it just "went down the wrong pipe". I made sure not to feed her that second mouse though just to be safe.
