E.sp Red baffled me

So I jumped the bandbagon ow E.sp. Red and ordered two slings. With all the good things I read on here I couldn't resist.
They arrived this afternoon, tiny little things. But when opening the little travel vials I was truly amazed. They walked out of it at a leisurely pace, swinging their legs like an Avic, unto my hands and just...sat there for a moment. No fear at all. No running no skittishness, nothing. Walked into their enclosyre like it was their home already for years.
Ok...I'm sold....

It can take 3-4 yrs for a sling to mature, they grow ever so slow. two of my slings are over a year old and barley 1"

I would, but I don't think he ships to the States. And if he does, you'll need to do a lot of work in getting permits. I know he ships to China though....

I kind of like that, yeah it would e nice to have a nice big girl but at a slow growth rate at least I know I would have it for a while, regardless of m/f :) Plus I love watching things grow up lol

Probably longer than that tbh my very tiny E sp yellow has barely grown at all in the last 3-4 years and molts once a year. Annoying.
As for my E sp red, I received as an adult. I do agree. They are odd things. Even my sp yellow sling is completely unafraid of anything, seemingly. They almost appear as if they are "curious" about everything around them.

Just checked your profile and saw you're not in that states :( darn bad luck for me lol.

Hope you enjoy your little ones, they sound great :)

That's wat kept me from getting them at first. But they make up for it in friendliness....

Exactly. Very un-tarantula like :p
I am wondering though how this behaviour protects them in the wild...being seemingly unafraid. Or maybe they use it like one of my rats did towards my cat. Just walk straight up to the predator and bite it in the ass?

Hehe, that is why i like those so much. And recommend them for beginners. They are so easy to deal with:)
Congratz on the lovely new ones ;)

Where in the world do you find adults?! :wideyed: I haven't seen any for sale since I bought my wild-caught pair from TarantulaSpiders several months ago. My male behaved just as described but it took my female a longer time to settle in. I think it was because she was old and so less confident, more timid and indeed she died of old age a month or so after I got her. :( My lovely male is past is prime I fear as he has long since ceased being eager to come out and explore whenever I open his enclosure. Instead, he is a curmudgeon and will retreat to the tunnel he has made (lucky for me, against the side of his enclosure so I always can find where he is ;) ). The really are wonderful spiders and someday I would like to get them again -- slings or preferably a CB female.

Euathlus sp. red slings are usually available from Swift's Invertebrates, although I see they are currently sold out. I have heard nothing but good things about this dealer and would watch for them to come back in stock or even ask when that might be.

What temps, how often do you feed it, and what do you feed it?

I agree their disposition is the most unique of them all. Even my G. pulchripes doesn't display such behavior.

My MM E. sp. Yellow molted out mature in 1 year. All of mine are kept: Temps 75 day/70-68 night, fed only crickets as often as he'd eat.

Molt records 2014: 1/17, 3/10, 4/30, 6/23,
Molt 8/1/2015 mature male

Molt records for E sp Red (unknown gender)
Received 11/2013
Molt 2014: 3/17, 4/24, 7/16, 8/31, 10/11,
Molt 2015: 8/15/15

They have no fear it seems in a way. Not too different than some animals in the wild who have never seen humans, and aren't afraid of them, YET.

@viper69 the first bit I had it, was kept around 75 degrees. Fed pinheads. Then spent about two years in a cooler room, where none of my tarantulas were growing. Added space heater to my T room eventually (75-80 degrees), and fed the occasional large cricket. Temperatures didn't really cause change. Consistently molting around the same time every year, once a year. If I feed it too much too fast, just ends up obese for a year until it molts again so I kind if sparingly feed it once every two or three weeks, depending on how I think it's looking. My sp yellow, P scofra, and Homoeomma sp blue all around the same size do about the same, while everyone else grows and eats like little monsters. Those three absolutely kill me. Lol

I know the feeling, I have the same issue w/my Chaco. I feel my AF is smaller than most others I've seen, and at this point I'm doubting she'll ever get to that larger size I've seen all other AFs of her species get--NOT happy w/that prospect.

I haven't run into that issue of staying too large and waiting on a molt w/this locality yet.

A few year comparison I did last year. Good news, this last molt I managed to sex the Euathlus as female. :)

and my H. sp blue as well lol

But yeah. I really, really don't recommend getting these as small slings, regardless hahaha

I would really like to find a decent deal on one at about 1", I think that's about the size I'd like to start one of these

Rarely found at that size. Good luck. If I was you, I'd get a sling because who knows when the next ones are bred. They are around, but not that common. Plus w/no Chilean imports anymore, the supply is limited. Though I don't know if this T exists in Argentina, I have a feeling it doesn't.
