It is known as a featherleg baboon but you have to be careful using common names because I have also seen C.calceatum called a featherleg too.
Be a bit of a surprise if you got a C.cal instead of the pachypus.....lmao
Glad you like :)

I thought it was stoutleg baboon...I dunno, I'm more familiar with scientific.

Again,common names for you.
It is mainly known as a stout leg but as I have said.....I have seen them called featherleg too.
This is the reason common names are frowned upon in the hobby......with good reason too.

i was under the impression that the "featherleg baboon" was S calceatum and the "stoutleg baboon" was the E pachypus... either way, it's an incredibly cool little T. i picked one up from kenthebugguy today at the sfbats meeting in concord for a pittance! i was thrilled!:D it's the only baboon spider i've ever handled:D

E. pachypus are fantastic. We've got a mature female (with absolutely no luck finding a MM) and she's the chillest T we have. She's more handleable than our Brachys and Gramms. I know this isn't true for all E. pachypus, I think it's because she hasn't established a burrow yet. The guy we got her from said she never burrowed with him either, so she's just weird, I guess. I really wish we could find a MM but by the looks of it, that's never going to happen, haha.

apparently it's pretty easy to tell the difference when they mature: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/the.tarantula.store/E.pachypus.htm

i'm glad to know that on the off chance i got an IM that he won't lack for dates:}
Yeah apparently the problem is that since E. pachypus is mostly WC (in Canada anyway), mature males are almost never collected because of the reason you stated: they look ridiculously different. One of the suppliers here had a sac with them like 5 years ago, but haven't received any feedback as to whether anyone has any males. We've made it clear that we need a male, but that's one of the things that suck about the Canadian hobby: it's harder to find more uncommon species. I think everyone I know in the Canadian hobby that has an E. pachypus has a female.

I think She-Ra may have to go dateless forever. Poor girl, haha.

Sorry to kind of derail your thread, Paul. Yours is gorgeous :)

SUCH an awesome T! I can't believe I got rid of the one I had, way back when :( :(

I used to handle that one, too... Very calm and workable!

I really like these lil guys too. I have two adult females that a friend sold me whan he finally gave up on finding a male. In spite of their very cool anatomical distinctiveness (long fluffy back legs, beautiful, subtle olive hues, etc) I find them to be kind of pet holes. They're kind of boring IMO. That said, I'd never sell them.

I did find a MM a few years ago at the Mid-Atlantic Reptile Show in the LLL Reptiles booth. It was labeled "Hairy Legged Baboon" so I spent a while trying to ID it. In the end I sent it to another user here, an experienced breeder, but it didn't bear fruit. I believe the female molted and the male didn't make it to have another chance. He was mature when I got him so time was pretty limited.

Gorgeous beauty... Paul...are the back legs actually burgendy in colour?
No,they are a browny colour......trick of the lighting i'm afraid :) although there are shades of other colours too on the back leg hairs.
Just have to get one and see for yourself......lol
