Well I finally got an E.Pachypus (love it) and got it all set-up in a tank. Its not webbing or anything, its been on the top of the cage in the corner with its legs real close together. Why is it doing this? I know that there are no pesticides in the soil or anything. And im pretty sure the soil isnt too damp. Any ideas?

Sometimes they just need time to get settled down in their new digs. Leave her alone and I am sure she will pick a place to call home soon enough.

She was put in her home about a week ago, I thought s/he would be settled in by now.

Mine took about a week to settle in. After I did a substrate change, it took her almost a month to get settled in. This is normal.

Alright. Another quick question, what is the temperment of E.Pachypus? Since its a baboon I assumed that it would be vicious but i was holding it (it ran out of its open container). Its about 2.5 inches, maybe 3 inches.

My girl will give me threat poses here and there and she can be quite quick. I am not a big handler to begin with but I’d think she might be calm enough to handle out side her tank, I won’t do it, but hey what ever floats your boat.

dang ryan, is that one gravid too or just fed very well ? :?

i love this species. i use to have a couple females, only one of which i would handle from time to time. you are correct ryan, they tend to chill out a little outside their tank, i consider them one of the least aggressive baboons. my P chordatus female was the same way.

I can't find a male for her anywhere. She is gravid now, but I'll get a dud sac or a molt if I don't find her a mate soon.

My suspicion is that they don't WC the males because they look NOTHING like the females. The locals who are collecting and selling them to exporters probably see them all the time and go "Hey, put that thing down. We're looking for stoutlegs!" Probably the exporters don't know either.

I did happen across one at a LLL Reptiles booth labeled as a "Dwarf Hairy Leg Baboon" for $15 last year. Once id'd I sent it to Hedorah to breed. I don't think anything came of it though.

As for settling in. I now (didn't then) have 2 adult females. One settled in within days while the other took about 6 weeks to start acting comfortable and finally dig a little. She wouldn't even use the pre-started burrow!
