I cant answer your question but will you answer mine>

I'm confused, this looks like what thought was a deaths head, B. desciodalis (splg?) or a B. cranifer. I had about a million cranifer, they were sold as false death head.

I dont see any spots on yours, whats the dif:?

Because common names tend to be random and useless...

also are mine e distanti?
Certainly looks like one...

i was sold them as that but they have a lot more black markings where the spots should be.
The spots are on the nymphs only and are along the anterior edges of the body.

Do a search on 'sexing roaches', you will quickly find lots of good info/pics.

nice roach

nice looking roach i have both distanti and prosticus.yours appears to be a mix of both.too much black on head to be a true distanti.has it bred nymphs of distanti have clear spots whereas the hybrids have non distinct spots and have a more reddish appearance than a black.
in my original colony of distanti i had a few prosticus morph out so i fed all off and started over.i would say yours are almost for sure hybrids,a little too much orange in the head as well

I've had a distante colony going for almost three years and have found the black head patterning to be the single thing that's quite variable. I guess it's possible mine are also hybrids, they look very much like the one pictured by the op, but I have never had anything morph out even close to looking like prosticus. The nymphs have distinct yellow spots and are very dark.
The orange you refer to in the op's pic is most likely a result of the white balance of the picture as the wing color looks about the same as the head. I thought prosticus had orange only on the head and the wings are just a bit darker/narrower than distante? And why would the hybrids have more black? You'd think they would have less of it if anything.

so distanti are more touchy than prosticus? I had some orangeheads and found them quite cool little roaches. These look great!

still think

i will post a pic of both mine
and when mine did hybridize they had more black.
both pics appear to be of an unpure strain to me.
distanti's appear alot more white than orange and they have a very reduced black.(i will even post a photo of an intergrade)
i see no difference in the care of either.they are very easy to breed
