Just found my immature female accanthosurria chacoana showing signs of dyskinetic syndrome. I'm extremely upset about the situation. Has anyone had tarantulas that have pulled through with this disorder? I currently have her in icu hoping for the best. This is the first time in 2years + of being part of the hobbie that i've seen dyskinetic syndrome in one of my specimens. I'm not a very emotional person but getting to see this disorder first hand shook me. If anyone has inspirational stories about dyskinetic syndrome survival now would be a great time to share them. I could really use some optimism....

Hello,
I cannot offer any exPerience with this but wanted to express that I am very sorry to read about this.
I love that species and can imagine how I'd feel if it happened to me, and especially a female that's expected to have that longer life-span you always hope for and expect, awww
I am very sorry...
I will stay tuned and see what contributions come along in this thread because it interests me considerably, do not know much about this condition, its causes and/or symptoms (not all), and I'd love to learn more...
Feel better :)

I feel your pain..

Dude, sorry to hear about this. DKS sucks. What is so bad about it is that the spider seems soooo miserable. Especially in the later stages of it. When mine was going through it, I did a big search and it isn't very heartening. The vast majority do not make it. There ARE a few though that do pull through. There are those that have reported symptoms similar to DKS, if it isn't DKS, but either recover or molt out of it. I wish you the absolute best of luck with this :(

I recently lost 4 juvinile Tapinaucenius subcearuleus I have had for about a year to DKS. All four were kept in the same conditions and in the vicinity of all my other tarantulas and from what I know they were not all from the same sac. It only effected them and unfortunately all four died in a few days.

I did have an DKS incidient with 4 G. pulchra slings I purchased two years ago. All four were from the same sac. A few days after I got them 3 of the slings started having syptoms similiar to DKS. Two died in the first 3 days but third continued to have syptoms for the next week but eventually pulled through. I still have the tarantula now and she is doing great. Although the chances are very low that a tarantula will pull through it still could happen.

I recently had an adult femal Pterinochilus chordatus pass away from DKS.
From what I understand, there is an EXTREMELY low chance that the T MIGHT survive, although the chances of death are EXTREMELY high.

Just leave it in ICU.
