I've been keeping dubia roaches for my T's for feeders. Question is 1) do the fruits and veggies need to be organic (pesticide free)? 2) I read the citrus fruits are bad to gut load when feeding to T's (oranges specifically)? Some help and info would be appreciated.

I use a primary diet of carrot, sweet potatoes, and greens. This is more geared to chameleons, but these are safe solid staples.

second thing is I recently heard from a breeder red runner roaches my be better for T’s because 1 they are soft bodied where dubia have a harder exoskeleton making it harder to pierce. 2 they don’t burrow and run more feeding response. Just something I heard. I have had dubia for a few years but just starting a red runner colony

Awesome information. Thank you. I will have to look into the red runners. I just got my dubia colony started a couple weeks ago. Mainly 1/4" roaches. My T's are all slings and they seem to be loving them. I got sick of meal worms and was told they don't offer much for nutritional value.

People (Tarantula keepers) feed oranges and other citrus fruits to their roaches all the time without issue.

Tarantulas do not have the nutritional needs of a reptile, there is nothing special you need to be worrying about.

Mealworms make excellent feeders for ts, I raise most of my slings on them.

Sweet. Thank you. Unfortunately the stores in my area is all out of organic oranges. I went with some carrots, sweet potatoes and greens.

I have never went out of my way to feed organic fruits or vegies...I just wash them good and if its something like apples, i peel them. Roaches clean the orange off the rind.

Oh, that's awesome to hear. Thank you so much. I did meal worms for about a month and they seemed to not want them anymore. I dropped a dubia roach (1/4") and watch them tackle and take them down like linebackers lol. For reals though, thank you for that information.

This is what I thought. With chameleon we have different nutritional needs

I use rabbit food for main. Then I use orbeez, or water gel for water. I give them the odd veggie or fruit when I'm not lazy, citrus or whatever I have. Obviously I rinse it right. They multiplied in to thousands in a year, starting from 50 adults. I think it works lol
