Okay, so now I've decided to go with Blaptica dubia roaches. I want to eventually have a BIG colony so what sized container do you suggest? Would somethinf like Rubbermaid work, or is the plastic rough enough for them to climb? Based on the size of container, what sized heating pad should I use and should I plug it into a thermostat to keep at about 90F? Should the heating pad go under the side with the egg crates?

I use 18 gallon rubbermaid from Target. Zoo med heat pads tapped to the bottom work well and with food and time you'll have plenty of them.

I've placed a large heating mat inside each of my tubs, up against one side, and this works well for most of my colonies...

Don't you risk the possibility they will climb up the cord and escape??
I put mine on the outside.. side. What I mean is on the side of the enclosure but on the outside so they cant climb the cord.
