So after the passing of my G. Porteri early last week it was time for a new spider. I’m pretty much a one spider at a time guy and instead of a whole closet of spiders I like to keep them out on display. I had my old Rosie for 7 years and she was somewhere between 10-15 years old (wild caught so not exactly sure). Well anyway here is my new A.Avic Frenchie! She was in a local pet store under pretty bad conditions but seemed pretty healthy overall. She was in a small terrestrial home with potting soil, a sponge instead of a water dish, and no hide. She was barely in her new cage a few hours when she got comfortable on her new perch and started mean mugging me as I took photos. Overall she seems very happy in her new home!!! Just waiting for her first molt to 100% verify she’s a female like I think she is.

Lookin good! Congrats on the new addition. Looks like you’ve done your homework on proper care of this species! Nice setup

Thanks! Yea, she is my first Arboreal but luckily since I had the enclosure from Jaime’s I still could use it. The only thing I was torn on was the placement of the water bowl being on the ground (I’ve read both keep it up high and that it really doesn’t matter) but that water bowl I got was a little too heavy to properly get it to stick to the side of the cage without fear of it one day falling. She doesn’t seem to mind as I have seen her come down to hang out by it already. The only thing that I just don’t see working is feeding, with my G. Porteri it was just an flat barren wasteland of a tank so hunting for her was easy but in this enclosure setup there is so much hiding space. I guess it’s like that in the wild and they have no problems hunting so I should be fine. What I did though was shove the moss in any nook and cranny I thought a cricket could hide where she couldn’t go so hopefully that helps.

Once she makes some webbing, you can put the cricket on the webbing, and she'll probably get it right away.

I keep the ground clear of clutter to reduce hiding places for feeders that fall.
