Bearded Dragons are cool pet lizards, however they do have special needs. They need a basking place of 115 F, UV light, an omnivore diet, and you have to watch their hydration. Nasty poops!
If you are looking for great pet lizards that are low maintenance I like the following lizards better than dragons:
1. Ackies aka dwarf monitors. They are pricy, but for a reason. They are like mini-Komodo Dragons that you can handle. They are smart, alert, and have personality. They make the best pet monitor hands down, and IMO the best pet lizard.
2. Leopard Geckos. They are reasonably priced, come in a variety of colors, and a low maintenance carnivores.
3. Tokay Geckos. The most underrated lizard species. Very inexpensive, very low maintenance, and captive breds CAN BE TAMED! I handle mine on a daily basis and have NEVER been bitten.
4. Sheltopusik aka Russian/European Legless Lizard. A great pet lizard that is low maintenance. Loaded with personality.
