Hey guys, I was washing dishes not too long ago and noticed this little guy hopping around on my window. When I took a closer look, I noticed something a little off about him. It seems as though he has TWO sets of palps! Does anyone know if this is specific to any sort of species/genus?
I'd appreciate any input, thank you! PXL_20230423_205006992~2.jpg

Definitely interesting. You're asking if a certain species or genus is prone to mutations but before a potential outlier gets discussed a better examination of the spider is in order.
If it is determined to be a fact and the species accurately identified we can then move on to research of one off, common in genes of X species, exposure to mutagens, and environmental considerations.
I don't mean to be a wet blanket here but scientific methodology is in order, not idle speculation.

🤨 And for those of us who aren't biologists? Are we just going to be left hanging and berated by those of us that are?

Left hanging along with the rest of us. With only that photo to go by.it's in the realm of pure guesswork even if that particular species is accurately identified and is known to develop mutations. If that surmise is reached it will still require further examination.

Probably a mutation. I wouldn't think it was overly common unless you're in Chernobyl.

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus, and thankfully I don't live in Chernobyl 😂

It may very well be! He's definitely got something to brag about if they are. 😆
I feel like that’s more likely but odd mustio a do happen like this so who knows!
