Ok...i've been asked enough time for pics of these guys so figured I'd do it while I wasn't feeling lazy:D

These were given to me by a coworker whose dad had a pool that he was draining that had been sitting unattended for about 6 months. Apparently they were pretty skittish as he said soon as they'd poke their heads over the edge all the spiders would dive underwater and hide lol (they can do this for 10-15 minutes or 45-60 minutes depending what site you read :(). He said these weren't the biggest ones that were there...indicating that some were over 3" in legspand :D

The first one is around 2.75" legspan, the other is around 2-2.25". Never seen a spider dash out over open water to pluck a cricket from the water (pauses partway there to re-evaluate prey location, see below pic) :D I'd like to get some small minnows to try as well...figure I'll be changing the water fairly often to keep it clean though.

It came from the shadows!!!

Typical food searching stance...couple of legs dangling in the water, waiting for vibrations (sorry, tried to get a pic of it catching the cricket in the water but the stupid cricket swam under the flat rock and i couldn't see it lol)

and the smaller of the two (around 2-2.25" legspan) with her egg sac laid two nights ago:

tank pictures:

flash got in the way...but good enough i s'pose :)

(with my hand for size comparison...larger one couldn't get a good pic)

larger one's tank:

That is so freaking cool. I am looking for some Dolomedes sp. this weekend while camping. They really intrigue me w/ being so comfortable on the water.

Thanks. I believe they're found pretty much nationwide...species vary though. The D. tritons are very widespread.
