I know thats a natural dog habit but im getting in trouble for it. It's become such an obsession for my dog that he tries to runaway despite the VERY severe consequences. Neighbors get mad at me and blame him for pooping in their yards too, altough that part is not true. If it helps he's a sharpai mix with a chow.

no he's too old already almost 3 years, he's starting to cut down because on our walks i dont let him go in front of me at all or evel leave my side but he still manages to sneak a pee or to when i let my guard down. I dont want to neuter him i just want to fix the problem

With him not being fixed it be very hard to teach him... i recommend having him fixed i will calm him down but not enough to stop peeing on things

one way do help minimize peeing all over is to walk him around your yard and let him pee everything out. then once nothing is comming out. take him for his normal walk outside the yard. then he has nothing more to pee out...

i did this for a dog that i was fostering. and it seem to work..

Um, a dog is never too old to neuter. And I've seen alot of dogs with prostate cancer. That surgery is not fun and the dog doesn't have a good chance. Really, its better to neuter your dog. They have implants if thats an issue. And you should have a much better behaved dog after the surgery. I'm very serious I used to be a vet tech, I have seen the horrors of 9 year old dogs being put to sleep because of cancer that could have been stoppped by simply neutering their pet. I really don't want to sound against a breed or anything but the most breeds I saw this problem in where intact male golden retrivers and Chows (that includes chow mixes)

I agree...unless you are a breeder there is no reason to not fix your dog...it really helps extend their life and improve the quality...and the peeing calms down as well...although at his age he will continue to hike his leg but have less of an urge to be the dominant male dog...

Well heres a quick update, i have asserted myself as a leader and his peeing and runnin away has stopped. For example when i go back there i dont let him jump on me at all. When walking no matter what he stays by my side even if theres another dog around (good ol' pinch collars), when other people are around i stop him from jumping on them as well. Well those minor changes really helped.

I suppose but ( im not a breeder) i kinda want him to have puppies with a similat dog around here. There both mixed with the same breeds and look VERY much alike.

He doesnt have a behavior problem, it was my fault for not being firm. Plus i personally like the way my mix sharpai looks than a pure sharpai. I prefer having mixed muts than a purebreeds i really dont know why.

this is why animal shelters are overflowing...unless you have homes set up and ready to go...there are so many unwanted dogs out there why add to it...and lest we not forget the health issues of not neutering your pet...it is of course your choice as the owner of the pet
