Anybody have a favorite dog shampoo for washing their pooch?

I've tried several different brands over the years and so far the one I like the best and keep going back to is "Miracle Coat" which comes in a black bottle with a pink and white label. It comes from Australia and is labeled as "cruelty free". The stuff doesn't lather or foam up like some brands and doesn't seem remarkable during the bath but afterwards the difference in my dog's coat is amazing. The black patches are shiny and the white ares are super white. The coat is soft and super smooth. I never tried their waterless and spray on cleaning products but the Shampoo product is excellent. I'd be interested in hearing about other good brands sonce I'm always on the look out for something better.

my favorites are Black Star, Filthy Animal, and Plum White, by Kelco Industries. It's made in Oxnard Ca. I have a local distributor I get it from. Not cheap, but it works so well, all natural, and smells heavenly. Black Star is perfect for black dogs, makes them shine so much, they almost look blue. For instance, Black Star has only watermelon seed, cloves, papaya, jojoba, aloe, coconut, avacado, banana, neem oil, tea tree oil, fig, and cranberry, along with a bunch of vitamins.

edit: I've also used the Bubble Neem shampoo, and the apple oats conditioner is great too. I always use DeMat spray as a detangler/conditioner as well.
All this stuff rocks!

Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Cleans them well, they smell very clean, and I can wash the ENTIRE face without pain or tears!

I just use normal shampoo humans use on my beagle. But it really depends on the breed. My old Shar-pei used to get allergic reactions from dog shampoo so I had to order it from a certain company. By the way Raindog, very cool bull terrier. :)

Would the Black Star work well on reverse brindle coats? See pictures of my Remi

Hey thanks IS and Hoosier,
Kilo is actually a mini but I love standards too. I bought him with the intention of entering the show ring but the time constraints with job and other activities relegated him to simply my partner in crime. Most people will say that bullies are slightly insane and nearly impossible to train but, well yeah that's about right. I can tell you that he turned four in May, has been with me since he was two months old and I wouldn't take a million bucks for him.

Here's a few pics from when he was just a little nutcase....

Spydra,
Black star works on all colors, but they also make a Ultra Blue, and an Ultra Red shampoo as well. I haven't tried either, but I love all their product I HAVE tried....
Nice dogs, BTW!

yes, bullies ARE insane...but I still want one! I have been waiting till after my daughter got a little bigger though to give one a go. They have a great rescue group here in the Portland area that I contacted a few years ago. I'm a sucker for other people's 'throwaway' dogs :)

>>I make my own.I use 750 ml (largest one) of palmolive dish soap.To that I add about 175 ml of glycerin(any drugstore will carry) and about 50-75 ml of white vinegar.Works well and is quite economical especially if you have many or large dogs.Petstore/vet shampoos can be expensive.Dishsoap and vinegar to clean and glycerin to moisturize both the coat and skin.Sort of like a 2 in 1 shampoo.

Thank you, Maggie. Some bizarre stuff gets passed around when anyone could read the ingredients, but I am beginning to think that most people won't actually bother to read ingredients. :? Maybe it's all in the habit or lack of it.

It seems to work well on human hair as well

No favorite dog shampoo, mostly use what ever I'm using, but back when I showed dogs I found myself always using this conditioner/styling spray-in... Crown Royal. ...No, not that... Give's the pooch a great shine and smells wonderful

It also works pretty good in human hair. Too bad you can only find it at the dog shows, or at least then. It might be in some of the better supply catalogs by now.
