She was doing a little dance in my hall this morning. I did a Google search, and it's been suggested that she's a black house spider, but I have read that they're native to Australia, and I'm in the UK. Spiddy.jpg
Thanks if anyone can help.

That is gorgeously black!

almost looks velvety.

any other photos?
Velvety is the exact word that I used!
No I only managed to get the one picture, unfortunately. She was about an inch big, maybe tiny bit smaller but I have never seen such a beautiful spider before.

I can’t make an identification because its all so black. And its not my local.

i need too see more to say for sure.

it is really cool you got to observe this.

next time, catch cup it. And take tons of pics. If its fast, its already a clue on identifying it. Some house spiders are quicker then others. Especialy those that don’t web and stay in one spot.

use this to try and identify it. Since you saw it in real time, you will have a better chance narrowing it down.

just google: black spider with your region and house in it. This should narrow down the results.

try inaturalist as well. You will see others with similar observations.

you never know, what you can find sometimes. Because of fruits we buy, and indoor plants, it happens to find something uncommon.
