Petsmart at 265 Shenstone Blvd, Garner NC 27529 has a Crested Gecko that's missing its tail :/. Instead of selling it for less they're going to adopt it out, I believe for free but ask to make sure. It's been there for a couple of weeks at least. It's healthy, beautiful and around 2-3 inches long. Call them and ask them (919) 773-0376 if they still have it and give them your plans on adoption before going.

Sorry if this is the wrong place this post or against the rules. I'd just like to see this guy/girl to get a good home.

It is actually very common and considered quite normal for a Crested Gecko to be missing its tail, as they autolyze their tails very easily, and the lack of a tail really does not affect the value of the animal. Most breeders do not even take that into consideration when pricing their Cresties, and the lack of a tail has no effect on the animal's ability to breed, etc. I see tailless Cresties sell for as much as their tailed neighbors at reptile shows all the time, so it's really just a matter of personal preference as to whether a pet owner minds their Gecko not having a tail, but breeders pay no mind to that at all. Either PetSmart does not know this(and it would not surprise me if they didn't), or there's something else wrong with the lizard, if they are going to simply give it away.

Also, when they were "rediscovered" in the early 90's, the vast majority of specimens observed had no tail, it was theorized that adults dropped their tails on purpose...

They either don't know or it's been there too long and nobody wants to buy it. The problem with corporations is everything has to go through the chain and that's probably protocol to adopt an animal that is "defective". Hey, beats the hell out of just killing it. At least they keep it there and feed it etc... They often adopt animals out that are sick, or something else is wrong with them. I got my first hamster through a petsmart for free with a cage, bowl, wheel, bottle and some bedding. It had tumors and both sides were pretty swollen. It couldn't use the wheel so it was more for decoration. I told them I'd give the guy a better place to die than the sick room. I figured this thing had a month. It died 6 months later when it flipped itself over on its back and pretty much constricted the blood flow to the rest of its body. Miss the little guy.

I don't know what else would be wrong with him. I've handled him many times. He looks healthy to me. He's got a nice solid build. Bright eyes. No mites or sores that I can see. The hygrometer, yes it's a crappy one, is always on tropical. he gets crickets once a week but usually twice. Everyday he's got his powdered and pelleted food. Just missing a tail.

Thanks for the info!
