I've seen a few people online with opposing thoughts regarding Scorpions and HeatMats. The few people online I see keeping Scorpions do not use a heat mat / any source of heat other than room heat. Now I realise this could be with the fact they live in a location where heat is not an issue. However I wish to make sure I am doing the right thing. I am currently interested in getting a Yellow Devil Scorpion and placing them in an Exo Terra 20x20x20 but the size is not the issue since they are a small scorpion species the issue here being "Do they need heat?"

I have no problem paying for a 4 watt Exo terra heat matt, however my problem is does my Scorpion (Vaejovis confusus) need it? And as to why some people keep them with heat while others don't, and how they thrive with or without heat source.

I realise the right temperature is very important for their everyday life cycle.

I live in an area known as UK in a room which retains 20c-26 degrees during summer and 20c during winter. I realise for Tarantulas it's "If you are comfy they are" but if Scorpions are different regarding to this statement.

In my experience, most scorpions do a lot better when it’s warmer, 25-32 C. They will barely grow, and will often not breed when it’s too cold. I have to add that I have no experience with this species, but considering their native range I can safely assume it is no exception.

Scorpions are very different to tarantulas when it comes to heat, and many species will actively pick out warmer spots.

20ºC is not going to harm your scorpion, but it will be more active if it's a few degrees warmer.
Thank you all for this information. I agree very much to the fact they require heat for much better and healthy Scorpion Behaviours such as growing, activity and metabolism. If I decide to get a Scorpion I shall use an appropriate Heat mat and size.
