Loxosceles sp. of the world
It should be noted that ranges of many of the South American and Central American species may be greater than described. The same may apply to certain African, middle eastern, Asian, Caribbean species and possibly Mexican species. Overall, there was less information about African, Asian and middle eastern species than everything else. The species in North America, especially the United States have the most certain range maps.
This project took me around 2 weeks of on and off work to complete. I found the information from various research papers and scientific journals as well as the original notes from when the species was discovered. I hope you all enjoy this and can make use of it.
Loxosceles sp. ‘Tenerife’: Found on the island of Tenerife.

- Loxosceles accepta: Found in Huadquina, Peru.
- Loxosceles adelaida: found inside the caves in the Parque Estadua Turísticodo Alto Ribeira, São Paulo, Brazil.
- Loxosceles alamosa: Found in southwestern Sonora, Mexico
- Loxosceles alicea: found in Peru.
- Loxosceles amazonica: found in the following states in Brazil: Amazonas, Pará, Tocantins, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí and Mato Grosso, as well as northeastern Peru.
- Loxosceles anomala: found in Brazil. Specimens were collected from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Notes: a 35 year old female was bitten and treated with antivenom successfully.
- Loxosceles apachea: range map for United States includes the western tip of Texas bordering New Mexico, southern New Mexico and the south eastern corner of Arizona. Specimens have been collected in Chihuahua, Durango and Aguascalientes, Mexico.
- Loxosceles aphrasta: Found in central China, possibly Chengdu area.
- Loxosceles aranea: Found in Querétaro, Mexico. It is also listed to be in Coahuila.
- Loxosceles arizonica: Found in central and southern Arizona, USA. Found in Sonora, Baja California, Chihuahua and Coahuila, Mexico.
- Loxosceles aurea: Found in Coahuila and Durango, Mexico.
- Loxosceles baja: found at the southernmost tip of Baja California, Mexico.
- Loxosceles barbara: Found in north eastern Baja California Sur, Mexico.
- Loxosceles belli: Found in Coahuila, Mexico.
- Loxosceles bentejui: Found in the north eastern part of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands.
- Loxosceles bergeri: Found in east central Namibia as well as north central South Africa.
- Loxosceles bettyae: Found in Peru and Ecuador.
- Loxosceles blancasi: Found in Peru. Specimens have been collected in Lima and Acolla.
- Loxosceles blanda: Found in the United States. Range map shows them to be in western Texas, but specimens have been found in south eastern New Mexico apparently.
- Loxosceles boneti Found in Mexico and apparently El Salvador. Can be found in Guerrero, Puebla, Morelos and Mexico City area.
- Loxosceles candela: Found in Nuevo León, Mexico.
- Loxosceles carabobensis: Found in Estado Carabobo, Venezuela.
- Loxosceles carribea: Found in The Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the islands in between. Likely found in other islands too.
- Loxosceles carmena: Found in eastern Baja California Sur, Mexico.
- Loxosceles chapadensis: Found in the Parque Nacional Serra da Capivara, Piauí State, Brazil.
- Loxosceles chinateca: Found in Veracruz and north eastern Oaxaca, Mexico.
- Loxosceles colima: Found in Nayarit, Jalisco and Colima, Mexico.
- Loxosceles conococha: Found in Peru. Specimens collected at lake conococha in the Andes Mountains.
- Loxosceles coquimbo: Found in Coquimbo, Peru.
- Loxosceles corozalensis: Found in Corozal, Venezuela and possibly the area around it.
- Loxosceles coyote: Found in Sonora, Mexico.
- Loxosceles cubana: Found in Cuba. Also listed as being found in the Bahamas and Haiti.
- Loxosceles cubiroensis: Found in Venezuela. Probably the city of Cubiro and possibly the area around it as the name suggests.
- Loxosceles curimaguensis: Found in the city of Curimagua, Venezuela and possibly the area around it.
- Loxosceles deserta: Found in the United States and parts of Mexico. This species can be found in western Arizona, southern Nevada, a small southwestern corner in Utah and the deserts of California. Can also be found in Sonora, Baja California and Sinaloa, Mexico. A specimen was apparently captured at the Texas, Mexico boarder and two have been found In New Mexico also.
- Loxosceles devia: Found in the United States and Mexico. Can be found in the bottom part of Texas. In Mexico, it can be found in Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosí.
- Loxosceles fontainei: Found in Guinea.
- Loxosceles foutadjalloni: Found In Segueya, Guinea. Specimens have been collected in Pastoria and Kindia.
- Loxosceles francisca: found in southern Baja California, Mexico.
- Loxosceles frizzelli: Found in Santa Rosa, Peru.
- Loxosceles gaucho: Found in southeastern Brazil and apparently introduced to Tunisia.
- Loxosceles gloria: Found from central Ecuador down to south western Peru.
- Loxosceles guajira: Found within the caves of the Cerro Bañaderos mountains in Colombia.
- Loxosceles guatemala: Found in Guatemala.
- Loxosceles guayota: Found on the island of Tenerife in Teide National Park, Canary Islands.
- Loxosceles harrietae: found in Higuerón, Peru.
- Loxosceles herreri: Found in Huancayo, Peru.
- Loxosceles hirsuta: Found in southern Brazil, Paraguay, Northeastern Argentina, and possibly Uruguay.
- Loxosceles huasteca: Found in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
- Loxosceles hupalupa: Found on the Islands of Santa Cruz de la Palma and Hierro, Canary Islands.
- Loxosceles immodesta: Found in Brazil.
- Loxosceles inca: Found in southern Peru.
- Loxosceles insula: Found on Clarion Island which is off the coast of western Mexico.
- Loxosceles intermedia: Found in southern Brazil and northeastern Argentina. Could be found in Uruguay and Paraguay possibly.
- Loxosceles jaca: Found in Hidalgo, Mexico.
- Loxosceles jamaica: Found in northern Jamaica.
- Loxosceles jarmila: Found in southern Jamaica.
- Loxosceles julia: Found in Peru. Specimens have beencollected around Lima.
- Loxosceles kaiba: Found in the Grand Canyon, USA.
- Loxosceles lacroixi: Found in the Ivory Coast.
- Loxosceles lacta: Found in central China.
- Loxosceles laeta: Found throughout South America. Can be found in Brazil, especially the southern part, as well as Uruguay, Chile, Peru and Ecuador. Very small populations have been found in the United States, Finland and Australia and likely other countries.
- Loxosceles lawrencei: Found in Caracas, Venezuela and likely other areas in the country as well as Trinidad and Curaçao.
- Loxosceles lutea: Found in Colombia and Ecuador. Specimens were collected in Bogota, northern Colombia and Quito.
- Loxosceles luteola: Found in Nuevo León, Mexico.
- Loxosceles mahan: Found on the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, Canary Islands.
- Loxosceles maisi: Found in Eastern Cuba.
- Loxosceles manuela: Found in the southern and western area of Baja, Mexico.
- Loxosceles martha: Found in the very limited area of Palm Springs, California and some surrounding areas.
- Loxosceles meruensis: Found in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.
- Loxosceles misteca: Found in southern Mexico and western Morelos, Mexico
- Loxosceles mogote: Found in eastern Cuba.
- Loxosceles mrazig: Found in southern Tunisia and southeastern Morocco.
- Loxosceles mulege: Found in Central Baja California Sur, Mexico.
- Loxosceles muriciensis: Found in Alagoas, Brazil.
- Loxosceles nahuana: Found in Hidalgo, Mexico.
- Loxosceles neuvillei: Found in Ethiopia, Somalia and East Africa.
- Loxosceles niedeguidonae: Found in the Parque Nacional Serra da Capivara, in Piauí State, Brazil.
- Loxosceles olivaresi: Found in Falcón, Venezuela.
- Loxosceles olmea: Found in Olmos, Peru.
- Loxosceles pallidecolorata: Found in Ethiopia and Kenya.
- Loxosceles palma: Found in Joshua Tree National Park area in California and Baja California, Mexico. Possibly ranges through Southern California down into Mexico.
- Loxosceles panama: Found in central Panama and around the Canal Zone.
- Loxosceles parramae: Found throughout Gauteng and north eastern Free Slate South Africa
- Loxosceles persica: Found within the caves of the Zagros mountains and south central Iran in Fars, Yazd and Khuzestan providences.
- Loxosceles pilosa: Found along the African coast from central Namibia to north western South Africa.
- Loxosceles piura: Found in northwestern Peru. Specimens found in and around the city of Piura
- Loxosceles pucara: Found in southern Peru. Specimens were collected in the city of Pucara.
- Loxosceles puortoi: Found in the capital city of Tocantins, Brazil.
- Loxosceles reclusa: Found in the entirety of or more than 90% of the following US States: Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. Found in North, Central and eastern Texas, Found all of Kansas except the far western portion, The southeastern corner of Nebraska, the southern half of Iowa, Central and southern Illinois, the bottom half of Indiana, the far Southwestern part of Ohio, uncommonly in the far southwestern part of North Carolina, Northwestern Georgia and the far western Florida panhandle. Can and or has rarely been found in far southwestern Virginia, far southeastern New Mexico and far southwestern South Carolina.
- Loxosceles rica: Found in northwestern Costa Rica.
- Loxosceles rosana: Found in western Peru. Specimens collected around Santa Rosa.
- Loxosceles rothi: Found in southeastern Baja California Sur, Mexico.
- Loxosceles rufescens: Found in the following Mediterranean countries in Africa and Europe: Spain, Portugal, southern France, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Morocco as well as the Mediterranean islands. Can also be found in Iraq, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. Has been Found in the continental United States , Macaronesia, India, China, Japan, Korea, Laos, Thailand, Australia and Hawaii. (Note: it is possible I missed a few countries and it is also possible and likely that their range includes more Mediterranean countries and may not be found in the entirety of some of the countries listed).
- Loxosceles rufipes: Found in Guatemala, Panama and Colombia. Apparently introduced to West Africa too. No specific Guatemala locality. Specimens were collected around for canal region of Panama.
- Loxosceles russelli: Found in Death Valley, USA.
- Loxosceles sabina Found in Tucson, Arizona, USA.
- Loxosceles sansebastianensis: Found in San Sebastián, Venezuela.
- Loxosceles seri: Found in Sonora and Sinaloa, Mexico. Specimens were collected along the coast.
- Loxosceles similis: Found in southeastern Brazil.
- Loxosceles simillima: Found in northern Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe to north eastern and central South Africa.
- Loxosceles smithi: Found in Ethiopia.
- Loxosceles sonora: Found in Sonora and Sinaloa, Mexico.
- Loxosceles spaditeca: Found in Peru, northwestern Bolivia and Argentina.
- Loxosceles speluncarum: Found within the caves of Pretoria, South Africa.
- Loxosceles spinulosa: Found along South Africa’s southern coast.
- Loxosceles surca: Found around Lima, Peru and now northern Chile.
- Loxosceles taeniopalpis: Found in southern Ecuador.
- Loxosceles taino: Found in the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. It is likely that this species inhabits many of the islands in the Caribbean.
- Loxosceles tazarte: Found on the southern and southeastern part of the island Gran Canaria, Canary Islands.
- Loxosceles tehuana: Found in Chiapas and Oaxaca, Mexico.
- Loxosceles tenango: Found in southern San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Very likely that this species can be found in the surrounding states too.
- Loxosceles teresa: Found in Northern Tamaulipas, Mexico.
- Loxosceles tibicena: Found on the island Tenerife, Canary Islands.
- Loxosceles tlacolula: Found in Oaxaca, Mexico.
- Loxosceles valdosa: Found in San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas, Mexico.
- Loxosceles variegata: Found in Paraguay and Northeastern Argentina.
- Loxosceles virgo: Found in the Virgin Islands.
- Loxosceles vonwredei: Found in the Caves of ‘Usib Farm’, Namibia
- Loxosceles weyrauchi: Widespread throughout Peru.
- Loxosceles willianilsoni: Found in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
- Loxosceles yucatana: Found in Yucatan, Campeche and Chiapas, Mexico as well as northern Belize and Guatemala. Likely found in Quintana Roo, Mexico also.
- Loxosceles zapoteca: Found in Guerrero and Puebla, Mexico.
