I bought a starter colony of 50 B. discoidalis and they don't to be interested very much in eating. I feed them the same general foods I give my other roaches, dubias and B. lateralis (both of which eat like no tomorrow)-crushed cat food and cereal, fish flakes, lettuce and oranges. I also keep a full dish of hydrated water crystals present and their cage at least 90 degrees 24-7. What's the deal here?

blabberus discodalis

Seems temp at 90 is too high, I would try room temp without supplemental heating. too high a tempature, they may stop eating, its too hot to move around. used dod food as cat food has too much nitogen for them to eat.Cheers, Tom

try dropping the temp to 85. My fusca and Discoids don't like super high temps.

I seem to have the problem of them not being responsive at high temps like many of you. around 75-85F seems to be their preferred range.

Okay I have since dropped the temps to about 85 and they seem to be doing better. They are eating a little and I've even seen some of the females exposing egg cases! At any rate they sure are molting/growing like mad, faster than my Dubias, which eat like pigs at even 90s degrees.
