So a few weeks ago I got my first Trinidad Olive tarantula I kept in in one of those little plastic totes that you would see for fish or really small animals. Well the T's body was bigger than any vent hole and it was closed securely last night. Last time I saw it was last night under some was in its web. This morning it was gone. Checked the most substrate every thing and I still can't find it all I have was it's old molt from a week ago in a different place. Any tips or suggestions would be really helpful I loved that little guy.

Are you sure the ventilation holes are smaller than the carapace of the T? They can squeeze through anything bigger than the carapace. Did you check through all the substrate? It's probably just burrowed and if so, just leave it to do its thing.

I checked all of the substrate. I dumped it like half of it, and then put the rest of it in like a little cup and container to see if it was in there, but the only thing I found was an isopod I put in there.

Carapace size is all that matters not body size- it escaped, or you have poor sub searching skills

I'd hate to say it but if you checked the substrate and the container and didn't find it, then it probably escaped through the vent holes. Check underneath any clutter in the room.

First off what is a Trinidad Olive? Use latin names, english names are stupid and lead to misunderstanding.

Secondly, read the beginners guide, lots of good useful info there about care: https://arachnoboards.com/threads/tarantula-information-for-beginners-and-more.318718/

Third, if its not there it’s probably escaped. Research more next time before you buy!

I get what you mean but I have been keeping Ts for a while now I just got that one on short notice and made a mistake

Thank you I will try to see if I can find

Yeah, unfortunately that doesn't sound good. Check corners, nooks and crannies, anywhere dark and secluded. Try at night with the lights off and a torch too, in case it comes out in the dark.

Yeah those style containers are really not good for slings as the ventilation slits are pretty sizable and I would bet it escaped. Make double sure next time the carapce width or thickness isnt smaller than any gap in the container. But perhaps you will find it, dont stop looking!

yeah, those KKs shouldn't be used for small ts....its not the vent holes, its the holes where the handles connect....your handles are gone (most remove them), and this leaves that space even more open.

The ventilation needs to be smaller than the size of the carapace. Unfortunately with slits instead of holes they can probably slide through sideways and escape if the carapace is not thicker than the width between the slits. I would carefully search the area near where it went missing and keep an eye out for it. Maybe put a small water dish out near where it escaped. It may turn up again. N. incei are heavy webbers, so keep an eye out for any new webs and have your family get you to double check before they remove any spiders they find around the house.

Leave a water dish out so they have a water source. They will keep coming back to that because they know where their water source is.
And like Jennywallace said, check every nook and cranny; anywhere you think a tarantula would hide in.
I would check all around the room of your enclosure first before moving outwards.

How big dls was it ? Search everywhere low and look for webbing.

yeah I got those top vents closed , this 2” t can’t escape. I wouldn’t use micro kk for anything under 2”. IMG_9319.jpeg IMG_9320.jpeg

Your T is very fortunate. Hard lesson to learn right off the bat for you. Happy you found it and it's safe.
