Did I mess up the discoid breeding process?

Ok I went in to feed the feeders. I took the top off the small discoid bin where I am finally getting some molted adults! Anyways there were two end to end mating and they freaked and pulled each other down into the egg crate! I hurried, put the food in and closed it, but because they are such a skittish sp the nymphs kept making a ruckous and I am sure making them all nervous! My question is did I interrupt the mating process or should all be fine. I catch my dubias doing this all the time during feeding time, but they seem unphased I am even in their enclosure. They dont even move when I touch them or have my hands near them. Could care less. Discoids are new to me and quite different, thats why I am asking. Thanks for any help! Lindsay

LOL you caught them red handed...

No worries the hook up is usally pretty tight & they should've finished the deed.

female roaches are basically baby factories when conditions are right

I have never had discoids before so thats why I was asking. What conditions are best for them I am not certain of. I think I am going to move them and the unrelated dubias (that I am having problems with) into larger rubbermaids though. Hope it doesnt stress them out too much.

I just got one discoid from my teacher. I don't really like them as they are very skittish unlike my hissers. Also, they're cannibalistic sometimes and that's just really really gross. This guy was the last survivor of a 10-roach colony, everyone else was eaten. Icky. He'll be scorp food soon though... :)

I have noticed the discoids to be skittish, but so far not cannibalistic or aggressive yet. Although I am just now getting morphed adults and the colony is small 40 or so? Its not till the colonies are into the thousands do I start to notice aggression and/or cannibalism.

Well anyways as far as dubias go they are great feeders and so far my fav. But they too are cannibalistic and aggressive (wing biting) etc. I think it all depends on the size of the colony in any given space and the number of males etc. I think all the species have pros and cons and many share the same ones.

as my own experience..discoid love wing biting very very much..as i still remember my first colony was started with 100 mixed size..i house them in a rubber tub (arround 60X30X30cm)..and put in many eggcrafts..density is low..after 1~2 weeks..some were reach adults...1~2 weeks more and when i cleaning up the cage, i discover that...there hv arround 10 adults but none hv perfect wings...all were got bitten............:? :? :?
