yall using pectin counts or just off the shape? i counted over 35

Edit because i recounted and i guess i was blind when i counted the first time, agree with female :rofl:

The shape, length and position of the pectines are a fairly reliable way of sexing with many scorpion families if you know what to look for. Most pictures posted are too blurry for me to bother counting, since it might still be less accurate due to the photo quality.

Hadrurus are similar to many (but not all) Buthids especially old world Buthids. There is a very visual difference. Male pectines are larger, longer, angled differently, and the base of the pectines can contact each other.

typically longer and tend to make the V pattern, touching at the top. Not always but that is what I have typically used.

Yes, it works for many Buthids species as well. Female pectines can generally be smaller with larger angles, and spaced apart incapable of contacting each other.
