So I got 500 B. Lateralis roaches yesterday to start and colony and found these beetles in the colony, another user on here said that they are porbably Dermestid beetles and I think they are black carpet beetles, can someone verify this and if they are Dermestid Beetles, should I get rid of them or keep them to breed and possibly sell later on?

yeah, my camera won't take close up photos without getting incredibly blurry and it doesn't help that the light reflected off their backs.

There are many beetles in that genus, google dermestes and see if your beetles are similar to any of the hits.

I would get rid of them. I still dunno how but my lateralis colony population was significantly reduced a while after I found those lil buggers in it! How often do you sweep up the colony of feces and discarded shells? They may be attracted to the waste there.

Not mine either.Larvae look huge!Mine has a band around the thorax. With the amount you have you'll get thousands before you know it.I'm almost in a beetle population explosion!

well I just got the lateralis colony and removed as many beetles as I could find, just wondering if I should keep them in a separate cage and let them breed to sell or just scrap them.

Those don't look like Dermestes sp.
There's a mealworm-like larvae in one of those shots (even though it's very blurry) but that and their overall body shape leads me to believe they are lesser mealworms, Alphitobius diaperinus.
