Hey that casting is really cool. How do you do it?

Does the alcohol (I'm assuming that was used in the first pics) keep the abdomen looking full or does it still shrink?

How did you do the resin? Just buy it from a crafts store?

At first I was worried the abdomen were going to shirink but the larger P. lugardi has been in the alchohol for 2 years now and the abdomen still looks plump. I think the resin casting looks a lil better than a T' in a jar good job

Well even if the abdomen does shrink you could probably take a syringe and inject something into it to plump it up before casting it in resin

I've kept my old P. lugardi in denatured alcohol for the past 6 months. What I did was make a slit underneath the abdomen, remove the inners (hold you nose) and stuffed it with a little cotton. It was my first time doing it and I kinda did a messy job. I actually wished I just put it in the alcohol without doing that, but oh well. He still looks great. There seems to be a little residue at the bottom, but thats all.

I bought the supplies for those castings at a craft store, althuogh it looks like the same stuff that shotgun804 has a link too. Its not hard to do, just follow the directions closly and practice. The more I make them the better they seem to come out. It is a project for outside though, as the fumes it gives off are kinda harsh.

some people clean the contents out of the abdomin, and stuff it with somthing when they make these , but i didnt bother. The first one is about a year old now, and it looks as good as day one.

At the bottom of this page , there is link about making these, and thats where I got the idea from, to make one

T. Blondi

Here is a picture of a T. Blondi that died due to unknown reasons. She is being kept in a mixture of 70% and 93% Isopropyl alcohol.

Hopefully it will not be for a long time, but when the time comes I would like to give the casting a try.

I agree... that is an excellent idea. I used to be sort of sad never being able to see my passed Ts again, burying them in the yard along with decades of pets. That is a great idea though. Especially with some of my more favored Ts... If/When my G. rosea goes I'll be devastated... and it would be nice to have her sitting on my desk, suspended. But I hope not to have to search this thread up too soon looking for those links...
