My little black templed cat snakes lives along river banks and streams and a member on another forums says that I should keep it in a damp cage but if I am not mistaken that leads to scale rot and lung ailments? The biome is the same as a garter snake.

personally i keep all of my snakes (with the notable exception of my GTP) a little on the more dry side...i give them a huge water dish that's big enough for them to soak in if they so wish and position it on the warmer side of the cage so it can evaporate and add a little moisture that way as well...

even my blood python (which are riverbank dwellers in the wild) thrives in this sort of setup and has actually been eating better than she was in the damp setup i had her in initially...

i'd say try both setups...a damp one and a more dry one and see which one the snake responds to best...

hope this helps:)

If you are worried about it I would suggest a dry enclosure with a water dish that it can completely fit inside of.
