Hello! I'm a first time amblypygi owner, I've had my baby Alcyoneus for 2 months and a bit now and things have been smooth sailing so far but recently I've just been a bit puzzled on when to be expecting moults and if she has enough space, at her current size, to moult? (And if she even is female?)

I'm not entirely sure on her age, when purchasing I was informed she'd be around sub-adult (this was before seeing her) which I was perfectly happy with since raising a baby seemed daunting, but she seems rather small for a sub adult. (But maybe i'm just misinformed? Very possible.) As a result I'm not sure how frequent her moults should be, and finding resources on how to tell the age of amblypygi has proven difficult. I also don't know when her last molt was, sorry :[

Anyway, here's her current setup (hand for scale, first photo is how it currently is - the one with the hand is from when I first got everything), and a few photos of the gal herself! 20250316_061810.jpg 20250115_155548.jpg 20250117_134029.jpg 20250116_211231.jpg

Setup looks good, make sure it doesn't dry out. Maybe put another piece of cork on the top of the horizonal cork.

I'm not able to answer what sex it is.

Yup yup! I've been misting frequently, every 2 days as the enclosure dries out pretty quick.

Would you happen to have any idea on when to expect moults?

All depends on what temps you provide. A possible sign of pre-molt would be if it stops eating for a week or more. You could try to tong feed during this time, but if they keep refusing food, they are most likely in pre-molt.

Umm... Not sure how to break it to you gently.
This is not a Damon medius. It is a Phrynus sp., which means its origin is from the Americas and not Africa.

The good news is that Phrynus is generally easier to care for than Damon.
