I have (actually, he's my sister's dog) a 5 year old Weimaraner mix with a strange fluid filled bump on the underside of the base of his tail.
It's around an inch and a half in diameter, and every now and then, this cyst needs to be drained. We determine this by feeling how firm it is. Not even 24 hours ago, my sister and I took out about a dozen syringes full of clear, odorless liquid. I felt it afterwards, and it barely felt like we took 5 syringe-fulls out. Right now, it feels exactly as firm as it did before we drained it. :?
Now, our efforts are never in vain when we drain it, because we tried leaving it alone since it didn't seem like we did any good, and it did burst once.
My question is this: Has anyone else ever had anything like this happen? He had tests done on the fluid before the cyst was this large, and we were told it's not anything malignant or harmful.
The first thing I thought of, actually, was hydrocephalus (babies born with some sort of blockage that prevents drainage of cerebro-spinal fluid, resulting in an enlarged head). Is there a possibility that the clear odorless liquid is, in fact, cerebro-spinal fluid? The cyst is on the underside of his tail, and I can easily imagine it being very close, if not in contact with, at least the tail bone, if not the spinal area! If the liquid is CSF, it must be draining at least a tiny bit, or the cyst would burst very frequently.:?
Anyone's input on this issue is greatly appreciated!
