hey fellas!

hope all is well and safe!

been reading a lot on the cobalt blue. surprised that a green color form exists in thailand.

ive seen tons of photos of the female ( which are beautiful ) but I cannot for the life of me find pics of mature males... does anyone own a mature male or juvi? just curious what they look like... i know usually males are a bit duller but id like to see for myself

thanks!

The blue males look a fair bit like the females especially compared to a lot of species. I’d assume this holds true for the green color forms. Like you said just a bit duller and leggy, be curious to see if anyone has first hand experience too though

I saw that Emil from Spider Planet got a bunch of these. Maybe he knows. You could email him, and report back to us what he says, please.

MMs probably look VERY similar to standard C. lividus MMs, especially considering most other Cyriopagopus sp. look the same as MMs.

Here is emil's reply on what we're all wondering about.. some other great info as well.. i guess we gotta be careful where we get these...

Hi Andrew Males of all C.lividus forms looks pretty the same the key is to have picture of males before last moult.
I have now fresh male Emerald Green so will take pictures soon but I don’t have any common cobalt blue to compare side to side . Just in case my male won’t be for sale or loan as I believe no one in UK got Emerald greens with confirmed location and I don’t want people to pair them with different populations and than sale as Emerald Green . I believe some German sellers don’t know what they are selling as Emerald Green . Their emerald green looks to me more like Green Femur.
Note that emerald green should have patellas and metatarsus in green colour while Green Femur has only femurs in green or Turquoise colour. Just to be clear it’s not only about colour cause both forms tend to change colour frequently and after moult can be more bluish which will change after few weeks and they’ll start changing to green . End of all most important is known Location data ( collection data ) Both Green Femur and Emerald green comes from Prachuap Khiri Khan province . Green Femur from small spot on the east of province Emerald Green from Hua Hin City surroundings.

I also reminded emil to send us a picture of his male at his convenience. When and if he does, ill post it..
Wow... so from what he says.. and some posts ive seen of ppl having these... some of us may think we have an emerald.. but maybe instead we have green femurs..
Wow.. that sucks.

All of the blue color form Mature males I have seen are not blue. So are you asking if the mature males are green for this color form?

I would think the same would apply. I would be interested to see, because if not they would look identical to a blue MM.

I'm sorry that happened to you, but you got a good spider at least.

Well let's all hope that breeding efforts with C. lividus emerald green are successful enough that these become established in the hobby, that in the future we can get them without too much hassle or expense.

Yeah.. thats why we wanted to reach out to emil to confirm what they look like.. he did say they look similar to the blue form.. but still interested to see what they look like in pics.

Seriously! The minax is on my bucket list! Love the black!

And yes. I hope breeding them properly works out... last thing i want is to get one thinking its a emerald.. only to get a green femur one.

I am definitely not disappointed. She is awesome. But just another example of mislabeled “emerald greens”

Alright fellas!

Heres some pics emil emailed me.
They dont look like males since the one he says is matured.. but i think he sent me these to show the difference between a green femur vs an emerald green.
Enjoy!
1st pic is emerald green
2nd pic is green femur
