I've been adding cypress mulch to my millipede enclosure... It says it's 100% natural and the guy at the pet store recommended it for millipedes but iv'e heard that cypress mulch is bad for them... here's a pic of the package:

I've been mixing it into the substrate for about a month and there haven't been any unexplained deaths and they seem pretty healthy. Is it alright to keep adding it to the soil?

I know you don’t keep T’s or scorpions on that stuff. So I’d imagine pedes are the same.

It's pretty much just mixed into the soil and very little of it to be exact. I definitely wouldn't make the substrate consist of only the mulch tho. As you can see the bag is pretty full and that is the bag that I took it from so there is barely any in the tank, just a few pieces here and there. Is it safe for them though since it's 100% natural?

I believe cypress is known to have oils that can be potentially harmful to a variety of invertebrates. I do know that a small amount mixed into the substrate hasn't proven to be dangerous to millipedes, but for future reference aspen bedding is far more preferable.

Hope this helps,

Thanks so much!! I'll probably just stop using it but it's good to know that just a little bit won't be harmful.
