I see a lot of 'Curly Hair' Tarantulas at the pet stores here in town and I was wondering if that is their actual nickname.. they also had Chilean Rose tarantulas labeled as 'Rose Hair' Ts so I'm guessing Curly Hair is the wrong name too. Also what is the latin/scientific name of this 'Curly Hair' T?

usually, they are referring to Brachypelma albopilosum...it's a fuzzy T with hairs growing every which way, from Honduras.
They can be skittish, but are usually very docile, and very hardy as well.

If the underlying question is “should I buy one” I’d say yes. I have had a 2.5” B. Alpopilosum for a few weeks now and am very happy with it. Interesting looking, not very skittish (at least mine isn’t), always hungry, always wandering around out in the open. Does a nice little “happy dance” after each meal.

Definitely get one. Even though they don't have the ferocious attitude a lot of the "more desirable" tarantulas do, they have all kinds of little quirks that make them endearing. They eat well and are almost always hungry. They are also like little bulldozers. Only yesterday I came home from work and couldn't see the waterdish in my Curly's tank. After a bit of digging I found it under 2 inches of substrate, I'd only filled it up before I went out! Also, if you are into handling T's these are one of the most docile species there are.

Here's a picture of my Curly, Barbara:

if i get around to ordering some T's i will definately get a curly just b/c i want to see the happy dance. i think that would be pretty awesome. plus i like the fact that they're docile (i don't want angry t's in my bedroom with me)

Great dinner dance! Gorgeous after a molt!

Mine clean themselves up so cute after a meal. They even rub their little tummies as if they're saying, "Boy am I full!" They are definitely and entertaining species to watch!

As previously stated, the Curly Hair tarantula is the common name for the Brachypelma albopilosum, also known as the Honduran Curly Hair Taramtula as they originate from Honduras and other nearby Central American countries. They are NOT to be confused with the Rose Hair, Chilean Rose Hair, Rosies, etc., which is the common name for the Grammastole rosea - which are from the Chilean desert in South America. I have some NICE starter Curly Hair tarantulas that I am offering in the For Sale or Trade area of the Arachnoboards domain - they are well-started at 3" and are now taking adult crickets - the curly hair is one of my favorites that Kelly Swift introduced me to a few years back. Most often, the Curly Hair is sold for less as these are typically wee spiderlings when offered at lower prices and will take possibly a year to reach the size that I am selling them for - they are hearty and notoriously prolific tarantulas - docile and easy to keep - they're cool. :)

B. albopilsum's are very docile T's. i rescued mine from a horrid petstore in July-it was just an inch sling and I knew if I dind't take it home it had a good chance of dyign there.
They are very hardy and mine seems fairly docile. it's a very good eater too. i think its a staple T in any collection!

My Curly hair hides a lot but is still a really cool T... she acts nervous in her enclosure but calms down when I take her out and hasn't kicked a hair once since I got her.

Yeah, the Honduras Curly Hair makes a great addition to any collection. They eat great and are not a real demanding tarantula. Much neater than a Chilean Rose. Definitely an affordable spider as well.
