there is NONE LOL!
I've tried it all, but here's what was the least offensive way.
(I no longer keep crickets)

I took a large rubbermaid tub, and used NO substrate. I had a couple water dishes that were very shallow, will little rocks in it. I changed it EVERY day..
I used chick mash, dog food, and orange slices for the most part, along with other fresh veggies as I had them.
The orange needs to be changed almost daily as well.
I used lots of paper towel rolls, and toilet paper rolls.
I did NOT use a lid, since it's much worse if you do. If the tub is deep enough, a lid is not needed.
They need good ventilation.
good luck, and let me know when you give up on crickets, and want to keep lobster roaches instead ;)

I coughed up the 8 bucks for a Lee's "Kricket Keepter" - basically a critter keeper with a couple of black plastic tubes that come out of it.

The crix crawl up the tubes (sealed on the outside end, w/viewing window to see if they are in the tube), and you can knock them out into the spides cages.

I get about 2-3 dozen medium crix - 18 or so large - and dump them in there, along with some cricket gut-loader in one corner and gel-water in the other, no substrate.

I then put them in the back of my enclosure or in my cabinet, so as to minimize the stink. After they are all fed, I wash the thing out with hot water.

This has been my best cricket strategy so far - the tubes that come w/the kriket keeper are easier than messing w/egg cartons/paper towel tubes...

I use a 20 gallon aquarium with no lid, feed dog food and fish flakes and a shallow water dish with cricket bites for their water. I generally buy 1000 1/2" crickets and they last me a month.

This is the exact setup I keep my crix in, I buy a dozen large crix at a time, that way I don't end up any dead ones.
