Just wondering which you prefer to feed your T`s. Right now I'm feeding mine roaches but I'm seriously thinking about switching to crickets. The most frustrating part about feeding my T`s is when I throw them in they burrow into the substrate & my T`s can't find them. So I tried cutting their heads off or crushing their heads but my T`s won't even bother with them when I do that. Does anybody have any advice or tricks I could use to help with my problem? I've read on the internet that roach colonies are easier to care for & they don't produce as much odor but I'm leaning more towards crickets because. They don't burrow & they are more active & my T`s might respond better to the movement. What are your thoughts on this?

Welcome to the boards!

Crickets vs roaches is one of the most common discussions here. Just try a search with keys 'cricket' and 'roach' and you will find tons of information and opinions.

Anyway, I vote for crickets, but I think that the majority here goes with roaches.

Yes, this comes up a lot. LOL. I feed mine b. lats, my t's love them, and I think they are better than dubias because they don't burrow. They are fast, but my t's are faster. :) You will find lots of differing opinions on what to feed them. Some are diehard crickets, some roaches. Welcome to the boards. :)

Thats one thing I don't like about roaches, they burrow. Dubias for that matter. They also have a hard exoskeleton so my T's have to flip them over to land a snug bite. Its cool most of the time because I get to see their fangs really digging in, {D

They also tend to stop and play dead when they sense danger. I also observed that in time my T's get used to relatively slow moving prey and play waiting games with them so, when I fed the fast-moving mature males in my colony, some of my T's attempted to catch but weren't successful. I might be buying crickets next time and observe what happens

My slings love tackling the nymphs, I'll give you that and they're very easy to keep.

For crickets; I don't like touching them -- at all. I use forceps on them :)
They die off very easily which isn't good since I'm only home once a week. They also smell and make a lot of noise. I tried breeding them once but the nymphs died off. :wall:

But they do provide a great hunt for my T's and a chance to film youtube worthy videos. :)

What I have been doing lately is cutting all the legs off on one side of the Dubia and throwing them in. Without legs on one side of them they cant burrow and just stumble around until they get ate. Give it a try.

I swear by jus plain ole crickets. In the last 5 years I have used all sizes
from pins to adult crickets to raise any Ts includng T.Blondi without
experiencing any problems. Some swear by roaches, as a Florida resident
I have learned to hate them but then that's just me.:}

I say it depends on how many you are feeding. If you only have a few Ts it would be smarter to use crickets, but for someone like myself that has a lot of reptiles and Ts I have opted for roaches. We have a colony of Dubia and Lats. I got tired of buying 2000 crickets a month and having at least 1000 die within the month. If I only had a few Ts then I would probably just grab a dozen crickets every so often from my LPS.
