When i was observing my scorpions enclosures I spotted a Cricket walking across my desk. I tried catching it but it hopped onto the floor and scurried under my bed, I havent seen it since. Later I spotted 2 Crickets. I tried catching them as well but they too ran away. I havent seen any since. This is bad news for me though, you think they are going to start a swarm in my house? I hope I dont have to hire an exterminator. :wall:

i have had so many cricket escapees in my room, but so far none have survived and flourished... (there is just no way for them to survive 'cos there is no food/unsuitable habitat.)

Unless you have big open areas of moist soil in your house, I don't think you have much to worry about, they're not roaches, they can't just leave an egg case anywhere, or give birth to live young, chances are they'll just die in a week or two, if not sooner.

Ive had crickets live loose in my room for well over 2 weeks, they were nymphs. They must have survived eating glue from my rug or something I dont know. But I never had any reproduce.

Since I've never used pesticides, I have a natural extermination crew. I have spiders all over the place. I even saw a wild S. h. castaneiceps walk across my carpet when I was watching TV. I have to clean up the dead bodies though. The adult crix are pretty smart. They stay away from the webs or the webs aren't strong enough to hold them. So I've gotten to be a real good aim with rubber bands! I rarily miss. The noise making males are the ones that get me up at 4 am. I shut the ***** up real fast with the rubber bands.

Heh, I had one escape only to turn up walking right next to me a couple of hours later. I picked him up and dropped him in the tank next to my T, he was happy to teach the cricket a lesson for running away. ;)

All this talk of loosing one or two just makes me laugh. Try dropping a box of 1000 adult crickets in your bedroom. I was vacuuming them up for weeks, and the people in the apartments around me all complained about hearing them all night.

I keep an insect trap in every corner of my room and hidden in the bottom of my Spider cupboard. Nothing seems to get past these sticky traps. They are not toxic but they are effective. As most critters will run along skirting boards these seem to catch everything from wild stuff to escapees. I get them off Ebay in the UK. Not sure for everwhere else. They have sticky backs and you can stock them to the floor/skirting so nothing gets past.
