Both types of individuals can get large, not one gender more than another. Larger specimens reach just over 50g; average weights for both are around or just less than 40g. Males in general are more slender appearing, especially when breeding (as they don’t have their mind on food).
Your observation about females being more expensive than males is not completely accurate. If you have a truly high quality specimen (Full Pinstripe for example), it would be worth more as a male than female. Because breeders only use the highest quality males to breed, the other average males have no place except as good pets. So they are cheap and often, difficult to sell alone.
On the other hand, most average quality female Cresteds, bred to a very a good male, can produce valuable offspring. So the average female will fetch a higher price than the average male (often twice as much). That is of course, until we’re talking about high-end -then it's reversed.
Another thing that can drive up the price of females is that you can set up a communal tank with multiple females. Typically, multiple males ends up in fighting, etc.
