Thumper, my little crested gecko is a very picky eater. He doesn't like crickets much, he won't eat them that often. I know there's some sort of special gecko food out there somewhere, but I'm poor at the moment (it's sad really, lol) and I was wondering if there's any fruits or veggies or anything around the house that I could feed him...?

www.pangeareptile.com and the SuperFoods program by Repashy or the Crested Gecko Diet by TRex that you can still pick up at your local Petco, etc. With either one of those, you don't need to feed bugs... it's a completely balanced meal replacement program.

I use the SuperFoods program with various nectar flavors and my geckos LOVE it! They are very healthy and chunky!

If you can just get the TRex formula for now.. and mix it with some really ripe papaya or mango (FRESH)... it will be better than only feeding him bugs. And please DO NOT feed him babyfood... it will only lead to serious health issues in the long run and then you'll really be talking about POOR... cuz the Vet bills will break the bank!

Good Luck!

Thanks guys very much :) And don't worry I'm not feeding him baby food, that's why I asked about other options :)
I'm gonna try to get that TRex stuff asap, thanks again :)

My crestie isn't a big fan of the crested gecko diet but it's supposed to be one of the best... I offer it with a little baby food mixed in and she laps it up. I'm slowly weaning her off the baby food, though I offer it as a treat every once in a while off my finger. She chomps on crickets like there's no tomorrow though

Geckos that are not raised on the Repashy superfoods diet often need some time to adjust to it. Mixing it with babyfood is fine short term, but eventually the goal should be to only feed them the diet so as to have a nutritionally balanced diet. Another option is to purchase the new BASE/FLAVOR system. Basically the nutritional part of the diet (base) can be purchased separately from the sugary part of the diet (flavor). There are multiple flavors to choose from that you can mix the base with (banana, strawberry, cherry, rose, fig, papaya, passion fruit, guava, blueberry, kiwi, mango, peach, apricot) OR you can mix the base with fresh fruit or babyfood. If you insist on using babyfood this is the BEST way to go as it balances out nutritionally if mixed per package instructions.

The way I think about it is like raising kids. Sure they would love to eat candy all day. Babyfood to a crested gecko is just like candy with a few vitamins in it. Its basically just sugar. Offer the kids brocolli, and at first they will turn up their nose to it, but we all know that they need their veggies too!
The Repashy diet is just that....the perfectly balanced nutritional needs for your geckos. Many generations of breeding geckos have been raised solely on the diet and are thriving! For this reason, I not only recommend it to everyone I know but because I have experienced the results first hand I became a distributor.
