Crayfish reproduction!

so i came home for lunch today to find this going on in my turtle tank. male is on top female is on the bottom. they were going at it my whole lunch break (1hr) and were still going at it once i left to come back to work.

these crayfish are HUGE btw, i caught them a couple of weeks ago. there is 8 of them total and they are all 4-5"+ from the tip of the rostrum to the tip of the telson/uropod. (not counting the cheliped or antenna)

Wow that is awesome, sometimes I go up to this creeek I have near my house and catch some, I always end up letting them go though. COngrats.

sort of they do..

it's pretty weird. he holds her down on her back and grabs her pincers and deposits a sperm packet onto her tail. then she curls up her tail and passes eggs through that sperm packet to fertilize them then attaches them to her swimmerettes. they stay hanging onto the underside of her tail until they hatch.
