Does anyone on here have experience with crab spiders? Will crab spider slings canabalize each other if not separated? If so at what size should they be separated?
I have not had experience with these from an egg sac yet (will soon though). From the experience I've had with other species though, they most likely will cannibalize one another eventually. I would separate them probably when they start to wonder away from the egg sac since that is when they would separate themselves.
They are highly cannibalistic. I would separate them quickly, and feed them fruit flies en masse to encourage quick growth so to enable the capture of larger prey items with greater nutritional value. Mist them lightly twice a week, and keep them in a lukewarm environment (60-70 Fahrenheit max). Feed twice a week to encourage faster growth. Then slow down to once a week after the fourth instar molt. Once fully mature, it is best to feed them once every two weeks, as they have very slow metabolisms.
BTW, it's interesting, informative, to observe crab spider slings taking each other on. Not the usual little duking it out battles but the extreme degree of assault and overwhelm. ATTACK!!!! Explains why these micro-maniacs sometimes end up hitchhiking on birds.
