Just wondering. Since I got my OBT I've had a few nightmares about it getting loose and biting my cat. She's a really nasty one and doesn't hesitate to bite. Their venom is pretty strong. If not, what is the largest animal it could kill?

I remember reading a story about someone who's OBT escaped and bit their cat, the cat in question got quite sick and threw up a lot but did not die, the cat did however kill the spider. This is just one incident however so it doesn't really answer your question, but it seems that an OBT bite will not 'definitely' kill a cat

My friend had a similar case: Her cat knocked over the OBT cage and killed the spider. I think the cat ended up eating the tarantula if I remember correctly. Anyhow, the cat was deathly ill for about a week, but ended up recovering fine.

I'd take its venom seriously if you're a cat owner. Make sure the cage is very secure and not something a cat can get open.

An old friends OBT got out one day and bit his cat, the cat did survive after been to the vets with internal problems, also the OBT had lost two legs in the process, I think they could kill a cat in the right place but not always definite.

It's a possibility. Cats and tarantulas don't mix. Keep your spiders in a room that's off limits to cats.

+1, but if this isn't within your capabilities, make sure the enclosure has a secure lid. I stopped using things like kritter keepers because my wife is a klutz, and if she drops an enclosure I'd rather have an injured T to deal with than a loose injured T and an envenomated wife to deal with. I can imagine similar concerns with a cat running around the room.
