My okatee corn, who is normally docile if a little skittish when first held, decided to hiss at me today (yes hiss, which suprised the hell out of me  ) and then constricted around my fingers for a good fifteen minutes (lucky he's only 2.5 feet at the moment) ever so often lunging at the rest of my hand with his head, though not biting. My hands were clean and did not smell like prey, he was fed two days ago and was not coming up on a shed. Normally he and my other snakes are handled 2-3 times a week but the past couple of weeks only once a week.

The only thing I could think of is he was feed a live prey item (my problem feeder ksb refused to eat it so not to waste it I gave it to my okatee) as opposed to f/t that he is normally fed. Maybe this caused him to become less handleable.

Any other ideas.

do you feed him inside his tank or take him out to feed. many snakes that get fed while inside the tank relate hands coming in to food and may be expecting food as the smells of the prey may linger inside of the tank.

honestly dont stress it .. snakes have tempers as humans do. Try handling her more often and just let her sit that day or 2 out, Then try again
