Hi, I own a love bird that has been raised on an all seed/pellet diet. I was hoping some one could tell me a good way to convert my love bird to veggies. Or atleast have her eat some. Also I have read care sheets saying that this mini parrot can eat mealworms out of a dish. Is this true? If they really can can I give them about a day? If so can they eat a superworm here and there?

My mom keeps and breeds lovebirds. Converting any bird to veggies can be hard. Most will never fully convert. All my birds including my macaw would still prefer nuts and seeds over anything. Veggies are more like a treat to them. Offer a large variety of veggies and greens (kale, mustard, etc.) and see what your bird likes. A good way to get them to eat more veggies is to only offer them enough seed for them to eat in a day. Then offer veggies in the morning and/or at night before or after the seed is offered. Love birds can eat insects. I've never tried feeding any to mine though. I think superworms might be a little more than they can handle though. If they swallowed them alive they might be able to do some crop damage too.

I find it funny how they are supposed to eat a varied diet, but still want to live on seeds. It's like forcing a kid to eat their broccoli

No problem. You know what else you can try is something called nutriberries. You can find them at Petco or most bird supply places. They are very nutritional and my lovebirds love them.

I don't think you want to convert your birds to a completely veggie diet, but introduce them as an additional dietary item. I find that all of my birds LOVE a dripping wet leaf. I'll start with something inoffensive like escarole, or a red leaf lettuce and clip it to the side of their cage right near their treat cups. They drink from the leaf and bath in it. In time, they'll start to nibble on it. Once they start nibbling, you can try other veggies to see what their preferences are. My birds all love a wet leaf, even if it's only to bath on!
