Well, I happened to be in Oklahoma City for Cinco de Mayo. After work I took a meandering drive that ended at a rural lake. I stopped at a few areas around the lake to look around and found this little beauty. A spectacular Agkistrodon contortrix contortrix juvenile. The snake was probably around 12 inches plus or minus an inch. I was very excited since it is my first ever copperhead sighting. I snapped a few pictures and he headed on down to the stream he had been angling towards. Oklahoma is definitely OK in my book!

Copperheads are my favorite venemous snake. I don't think that I would ever own a venemous snake. However, if I did, it would definately be a Copperhead. I'm partial to the Osage Copperhead, but they are all beautiful.

I know it might seem wierd, but for some reason, Soloman Island Ground Boas remind me of Copperheads. I know that the patterns are totally different. But the shape of the bodies are quite similar in my book. I would definately be interested in acquiring one of these someday.

Anyways, back to oooing and aahing over your picture.

Ooooooooo

Thanks everyone! It really is a beautiful snake. I only wish I would have snapped some pics in some leaf litter. I snapped quite a few pictures in the spot featured in this pic, but none in the leaves. After the photo I scooted her into the leaf litter with a small stick. The snake's pattern blended in perfectly with the shadows of grass and oak leaves. I could hardly see her and I knew where she was at. I believe this darker baby pattern usually brightens into the typical copper color with age. You won't be dissapointed if you pick up a pair Lelle. They add a nice bit of variety to a crotalid collection.

Yeah I dealt with them and they are truly nice snakes in terrarium, very alert and always hungry and very beautiful, they look almost airbrushed up close. One "minus" is the smell... like cat pee LOL!
