Well this morning I awoke to a tapping noise coming from somewhere. After some checking I find it is coming from my communal P. regalis tank. Seems I have my first mature male! I will post a video later tonight when I get off work. I plan to take the mm out of the tank. I have heard many problems have started by allowing a mm to stick around so he will be removed.
I am happy things have gone so well! Not a single death in the lot of 20. :)

That's awesome! I've been waiting for an update like this!

I bought five regalis slings for a communal project after I saw your other communal thread; they just finished their first molt together in my care. :) It'll be awhile before I see any MMs. lol

hmmm...

So do female communals work better?

I've never owned a taratula - just babysat for one (pinktoe I think), but this is really cool to hear. I look forward to the video. :)

Well my webcam is acting up but I got a video together. There are three mm's in the setup now. One guy was tapping his brains out all night lol.
There is a little bit of Blair Witch action with the camera:( , but you get the idea.

Hey Ryan, I'm sure you get this question all the time but here it goes. Do you have any advice on how to keep them from eating each other? This will be my first communal of regalis. I have 9 of them on the way that are about 1/2 inch. Your words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

Small setups are key. Some people will say stuffing them with food is the way to keep them happy and prevent deaths but I find that to be totally untrue. I fed them just like you would feed a single one which for me is a feeding every other week or longer.

That is suprising. I would of thoght the exact opposite. How big of an enclosure for 9 of them at that size?

Nothing big. I would keep 9 in a tall deli container and they should be ok in there for a few molts. The idea behind this is keeping them in close contact with each other so they don't setup their own territories, when they do that they tend kill trespassers.

Watch out for runts too. If you spot one that is missing meals because he is being bullied away from prey take it out and give it some food then put it back in.

I agree! I am doing the exact same with ornata's and they are doing great, they have also made very elaborate chambers....that was a awesome vid

Should I allow them to have hides or not?

Edit: Are you spraying or do you have a water bowl in there for all of them?

I have heard nothing good about ornata communals and my expierence with ornata communals matched what I heard. They seem to be nice to each other for a while, then once day I came home and found 1/2 eating the other 1/2.

I used one chunk of cork in the deli container, once they got bigger and upgraded tanks I still gave them something to climb on but it was just a bigger slab of cork.
I only sprayed.
