I figured it was time to start up my own pic thread so I could pretend to be as cool as the rest of you  I would prefer to keep this as sort of a keeping diary, but what's the point of keeping such awesome animals if you're not going to take photos of them? So here we go!

Here she is, my first tarantula: Captain Hotdog!

Sold as Grammostola rosea, but apparently G porteri, and obviously freshly molted. I bought her for $30 with the enclosure on May 21, 2016. I didn't really expect to go to the bug fair at the natural history museum and come home with a tarantula, but I had been considering getting one for months and had been obsessively watching TarantulaAddict's feeding videos on YouTube. My spider friends encouraged me to go ahead and commit and made some suggestions about genera that would be suitable for a beginner, so I took a stroll around the fair and ended up taking the plunge.

Captain Hotdog was 2" dls. The guy who sold her to me was super aggro when he threw an enclosure together for me, slapped her molt mat into it, pointed at it and shouted, "SEE THAT? DON'T TOUCH THAT!!" Then he very weirdly rehoused her into her new home of fluffy coco fiber and handed her off to me. Poor little thing was so traumatized and was in a stress pose for hours until I got her home.

I was obsessed! She was so awesome! I hadn't done much research prior to my purchase (lol), but my friend said that they keep very similar to the jumping spiders I kept, so it seemed like no big deal. My friends were also excellent mentors through my first year of keeping, and I couldn't have made a better choice of spider to withstand my weird noob missteps and husbandry mistakes.

Anyway, here she is now, molted fresh a month ago at about 3.5":

I will always love her. She's very precious to me <3

All of my tarantulas have names. They are usually ridiculous, whatever I think up off of the top of my head. It's okay, they don't speak English, so I don't think they will care.

Anyway, my full list of species is in my profile, and I'm happy to take requests for photos of any species I have! For now I will start posting whatever I feel like.

Not as tubular as THESE AMAZING WEBS from my 2.5" Ceratogyrus darlingi boy!
You should get a female for that handsome young boy. C. darlingi mature quite small, as mine matured at around like 3'' (give or take).

I have a female (his sacmate) but I do plan to find him a mature lady once he comes of age.
