Hello, I got these snakes awhile back, when I offered a friend help, who needed a place to store them for a short period of time. It dosent look like he's going to be able to care for them anymore so I will be keeping them. With the endless Colubrid color morphs, I'll never figure out what I have here. Im looking for the spiecies name , and what ever color morph(common name) its most commonly refered to as. Thanks in advance for any help.

Later, Tom

I'm no expert on Southwestern Kingsnakes or Milksnakes at all, so I would have no idea what is what. I deal with Cornsnakes, mostly. Although I do have a California King for a 'trash can'.

#3 looks like some sort of aberrant patterned California Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula californiae)

But you might try looking for information/pictures here:

Unfortunately, I can't help you ID these guys. I was just wondering if there was some sort of parasite on #2. The first red section behind its head has two lumps on it and there's a few other areas that look similar. Just wondering!

First one looks like a Pueblan Milk snake(Lampropeltis triangulum campbelli) and the Second looks like a Sinaloan Milk snake(Lampropeltis triangulum sinaloae).

Dont know about the others.

Zinto i see what your pointing out, but they might be drops of water too lol, that look enough that they could be that.

If memory serves.
#1 fits triangulum. The stripes are roughly the same in width.
#2 could be Zonata
#3 is getula californiae
No idea what 4 is.
The bottom 3 are variations of mexicana
Am I close?

I wish you luck. The only color I haven't seen in Lampro's is green.

Hi,

I agree with DavidBeard. The first is a color morph of campbell, we call this type "sockhead" here. ;)
Nice addition, congrats!

I was close! I'll go along with DavidBeard too.
I will also add I broke my golden rule of snakes here. I seriously doubt there is a more debated snake topic in the world than IDing lampro. Even the experts get in heated arguements. :wall:

I agree with the identities of all but number 4, which looks more like a Cornsnake hybrid to me. Look at the pattern behind the head, and inside the blotches; those definately seem similar to a Corn's pattern there. The three L. mexicanas don't have that. I know that there are a LOT of Corn x Lampropeltis hybrids out there in the market. I once "babysat" a Corn x Greyband King that looked EXTREMELY similar to the snake in pic #4, except it was an adult. The dark coloration on top of this little snake's head is similar to that on my Greyband's head.

I've seen plenty of pure Variable Kingsnakes that looked like #4....very few people crossbreed this species of King.

The 2nd Milksnake may be a Nelson's....I've always had a hard time telling them from Sinaloans unless they are side by side lol.

#4 could be what's known as a Jungle Corn, which is a Corn x California King. They have been becoming more common over the last couple of years, and there are several color morphs available now.

I think the last 4 are prob found in Mex. Basically subs of Lampropeltis alterna (Gray-Banded King). All those are nice looking snakes! Really clean looking. Thanks for the pics! Hmm, #4 kind of looks like the Eastern Milk. Not sure about any of that....just a gut feeling.
