I remember finding a site a long time ago where people could send pics of bugs they found around their houses or whatever, and they would ID them. Anyway, one of the pictures I saw was a red and blue purse web spider that is supposedly very rare and from the US. Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about? I've never been able to find another picture of one. Does this spider exist or was I on something that day? {D

I remember reading that they were endangered and I'm pretty sure it was in the Eastern U.S.

We all do illegal things occasionally but as far as these spiders go, they are endangered anyway and should be left alone.

havent been on the forum in a while but anything mentioned about pursewebs catches my interest. Sphodros rufipes is not endangered, just extremely hard to find. There was a good article about them a few months back in the Journal or Arachnology. The only U.S. mygale on the endangered species list (last time i checked was the spruce-fir spider).
